Cover Reveal: Lux: Consequences by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Yes! Today we have part 2 of the new Lux Series Cover Reveal, featuring Lux: Consequences. This special edition volume contains Books 3 and 4, Opal and Origin respectively. I believe Lux Book 5, Opposition, will only be released as a single book volume (since after all, it is an odd number)

Without further adieu, here is the lovely cover to Consequences!

Consequences: Opal & Origin (Lux, #3-4)

Actually, the covers to Lux Consequences and Beginnings have been designed to fit into either other. There have been slight modifications to Lux Beginnings, so below is the connected covers. The changes to Beginnings make sense so that there are uniformity between the covers.

I think it actually looks pretty nice like this!

Lux: Beginnings (Obsidian & Onyx) Official Blurb:
Obsidian
There's an alien next door. And with his looming height and eerie green eyes, he's hot...until he opens his mouth. He's infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, he lights me up with a big fat bulls-eye. Turns out he has a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal his abilities and the only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Onyx

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro alien connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

Lux: Consequences (Opal & Origin) official blurb:

Opal

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing alien hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Origin
Daemon will do anything to get Katy back. After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on? And will they even be together?

This weeks WOW is of course, City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare!

Goodreads Synopsis:

ERCHOMAI, SEBASTIAN HAD SAID.

I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary's own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him--must they journey to another world to find the chance? Lives will be lost, love sacrifices, and the whole world changed in the sixth and last installment of the Mortal Instruments series!

That sentence about journeying to another world sounds ominous...What dangers will they have to face? Will Jace fully recover from being the not-Jace-controlled-by-Sebastian?

Whoo we haven't done a Teaser Tuesday in months! Today's teaser is from Dani's current read, Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg.

Goodreads Synopsis:

For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

TEASER:

Just so we are remembering this correctly: When you kissed me I went home and splashed cold water on my face. When I tried to kiss you, you ran away to Ireland for the summer.

So can girls and guys really be just best friends? Or will they eventually....fall in love? Review coming soon!

Waiting on Wednesday (21): Burned by Karen Marie Moning

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly bookish event hosted by Breaking the SpineThis is a meme that many book blogs participate in to goggle over highly anticipated upcoming releases and fabulous covers and authors!

Burned (Dani O'Malley, #2; Fever, #7)Have you guys heard the news on Burned from KMM? If not, prepare yourself for shock. Despite Burned's further pushed back release date...well it was the first book I immediately thought of as "want to read" today. The wait for this book is just u-n-b-e-a-r-a-b-l-e. At the rate it's going? I might be an elderly woman before Burned is out.

So...the Burned situation. At first it was going to be out in April 2014. Then it got pushed back to June 2014. And finally, January 2015. *sobs*. Just FYI, Iced was out in 2012...so Burned is going to be hitting three whole years later basically.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Trick! Well, there isn't one unfortunately, and I don't think we're going to get one anytime soon since Burned was pushed back so late.

The wait for this is literally killing I think. Every time I even think about Burned I immediately go and grab a Fever book and try to immerse myself into it's world, for even a hint of what's to come. I know that since KMM is pushing it back one final time, it WILL be amazing. I just wish it'd come sooner than later. Iced's ending pretty much fried me on the spot, so will I be burned in this installment as well?

We've got 9 more months to go for this guys. We can do it. Right? Another note on this series: KMM said originally she planned for two more Dani O'Malley books (Burned and Flayed) with two more Mac books following. She has decided to incorporate the story of the two Mac books into Dani O'Malley, so there will only be two more books in this series.

There are several Burned snippets and teasers that can be found on KMM's Facebook page, link provided here. You might have to scroll a bit:

Can't wait for Burned early next year (ha)!

Review: Jet by Jay Crownover

Jet (Marked Men, #2)Jet by Jay Crownover
Steph's Rating: 3.5 stars
Overall Rating: 3.5 stars

Format: ebook
Publisher: William Morrow (Harper Collins)
Publication Date: May 28th, 2013
Pages: 416

Goodreads Synopsis:
With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.

Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.

Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

Review: *NA Novel*

First off--thanks so much to William Morrow for giving me a copy of Rule (Book 1--and another bonus from that Molly McAdams Pranktacular Giveaway). That book gave me another series to dote on. I will probably review Rule at some point, but I read Jet (Book 2) right afterwards and I really wanted to do this one first.

Well, this is a deliciously yummy follow up Rule's story. I liked this story a lot, though not as much as Rule. Definitely knew the story between Jet and Ayden was coming up though after all that plotting trouble Jay Crownover went through to set this sequel up.

It all starts at a heavy metal concert...where Jet is performing and leading the crowd. After one drink too many, Ayden Cross is just about ready to throw herself at him and be accepted thanks to Jet's not so stellar reputation--but the thing she least expects? His complete and utter rejection. Not too long later, Jet becomes one of her roomies along with Cora, probably the worst thing to add to that humiliating confrontation. Doesn't help that Ayden and Jet are polar opposites, whose ideology of life is like black and white. They say opposites attract, but is that true for two people on the extremes of their spectrums?

Everything started off superbly in this novel. Ayden left behind all of her ghosts in her home state of rural Kentucky, trying to start anew in Denver and live life in the light.  Jet's a Denver native and has his music career on track, but his demon is constantly looking just over his shoulder and Jet doesn't think he'll be able to outrun 'it' no matter where he goes. The book is really like two "self-rediscovery" stories that just happen to crossover actually, and I think this really gave it a realistic touch.

But the one thing that made me give this 3 stars is Jay Crownover's decision to make TWO stubborn pigheads as her leads. I guess it works sometimes, but in this case, not so much. I like Jet and Ayden individually as characters, but when they are together? They are too caught up in their own problems to see the good things in front of them, especially Ayden. I'm not saying that they can't be knuckle headed, but it just was so prolonged through the entire book basically (except beginning and end). I kind of got fed up with the slow progression of Ayden and Jet's characters, and honestly? I just wanted to smack some common sense into their heads a few times. Shake them into seeing straight.

The 20 Best Gif Slaps Of All Time

Just like that. Rock it, Snape.

So, I didn't buy into Jet as much as Rule sold me on, but yes, once I get over the fact that there are two characters as stubborn as hell (and hey, there are lots of stubborn people in the world, so I got to be understanding), the themes of this book are really good. Jet has plenty to give, and also sets up for Rome (Book 3), which is Rome and Cora's story. Looking forward to that one, which I will read as soon as I can! Love these Marked Men books!

Cover Reveal: Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Have you guys read White Hot Kiss Yet? It's only been about two weeks since its release, but here we have the Cover Reveal of Stone Cold Touch, the second book of The Dark Elements Series!

First some info on White Hot Kiss for those who haven't read it yet, and FYI do NOT read the synopsis for Stone Cold Touch if you haven't read White Hot Kiss yet (hence why I'm putting this first--keep scrolling for Stone Cold Touch)!

White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements, #1)WHITE HOT KISS Synopsis:

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Now, ready for Stone Cold Touch?

Stone Cold Touch (The Dark Elements, #2)

Wah Lahhh! Love the blue, hate that it might be Zayne on that cover. I'm a ROTH girl...so...hopefully everything works out (in favor of Roth of course).

Again, don't read Stone Cold Touch's Synopsis if you haven't gotten to WHK yet!

STONE COLD TOUCH Synopsis:

Every touch has its price

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden.  Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

Waiting On Wednesday (20): Sweet Reckoning by Wendy Higgins

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly bookish event hosted by Breaking the SpineThis is a meme that many book blogs participate in to goggle over highly anticipated upcoming releases and fabulous covers and authors!

This week's WOW is Sweet Reckoning by Wendy Higgins, the last book in the Sweet Trilogy. Finally, the ending to Anna and Kaidan's story is less than two months away from the shelves!

Goodreads Synopsis:
Sweet Reckoning (The Sweet Trilogy, #3)

It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

If I'm being honest, I haven't touched a Sweet book in at least half a year. They've been sitting pleasantly on my shelves, but I haven't picked one of them up and reread in a while. So to say that my memory of what has happened so far is sketchy...is a bit of an understatement. Okay, so I really need to do a good reread of Sweet Evil and Sweet Peril, but I still can't wait for Sweet Reckoning to come out. I LOVED the first two books, and I'm sure the third will be just as exceptional. And I mean, Kaidan. Enough said.

Sweet Reckoning is out on April 29th, so less than two months to go!

Review:

WOW. I whizzed through this book over the course of a few hours, and I can't say enough that I love, love, LOVE this book! White Hot Kiss is your standard witty JLA book, and while some people might get tired of her formula-like writing, I personally love the versatile equation she came up with and I know her book will not disappoint, every time. This is a fantastic series debut for Jen, and it's one of the best "first books" she's ever come up with!

Layla is a defect amongst the Warden race, in fact, she's pretty much cursed. Born as half demon, half of the mortal enemy of the Wardens, she hasn't earned many fans even within the Warden clan she's been raised in since a kid. It doesn't help her that getting too close could mean getting your soul whisked away, no thanks to her demon side. She doesn't fit in nicely into a category--not human, fully demon, or Warden. The only thing she has are her special abilities that are enough for the Wardens to keep her around. But when she meets Roth, a powerful Upper-Level demon, she starts questioning everything she has been taught to believe by her upbringers. She learns the truth behind her bloodline...and the fact that she may be in the eye of a demon coup.

I just don't even know what to say. WHK is just so Jen. The humor, the references, and the phenomenal characters; all of the usual Jen characteristics are throughout this book, and every single one fits in perfectly. There is just the right amount of intensity fueling the story to make you feel uber excited for the rest of the series, but not so much that you feel burned out after just book one. I think WHK is really showing Jen's progression into a master storyteller, and this book was definitely worth it's wait.

Oh deary Roth. I'm so sorry Daemon, but Roth is my new fave Jen-boy. This bad boy demon is unfairly--yes, best put, sinfully--hot. And he's so charismatic that you can't even question not being drawn to him. Roth is an amped up Daemon in a way, but I liked Roth the moment I met him. With Daemon, he had a book of being a kinda-sorta-but-still-hot douche, so Roth is in the lead. I mean, if this is just the beginning? I CAN'T WAIT to see how Roth's character is going to develop throughout the series. He's really perfect for Layla, who's been so governed by rules her whole life. Layla needs someone to make her feel special for once instead of a birth defect, and Roth provides all of the above.

Usually you don't think of sexy when you think of gargoyles...but as always, Jen knows what she's doing and exactly what she wants to deliver. I'm pretty sure people are going to give the eyebrow when they read the synopsis and think of the stone sculptures on the sides of buildings, but I can assure that this isn't anywhere near that. I am so in love with this concept, and its just such an original voice out there. I think these not-so-stony gargoyles might be it for me among all of Jen's books so far!

What would a JLA book be without the jaw-dropping twisty-twists? There will be lots of bomb dropping and explosions all the way through the book, so my normal Jen advice--Brace yourselves. Especially for the ending. ;)

I'm onto my second read of White Hot Kiss--in fact I basically just read the last page and flipped right back to the beginning. Like all of her books, here is some real quality that you can read over and over again as many times as you want, and you still won't find yourself sick of any moment of it. I just did a fast read-over of WHK so I could get out this review (we know, we've been quiet for the past week), and now I'll go do my in-depth read. Can't wait for Stone Cold Touch this November--whose cover reveal will be here soon!
